According to a report by the Financial Associated Press, the chatbot ChatGPT development company OpenAI has lobbied EU officials to influence the upcoming “Artificial Intelligence Act” and has succeeded. As the European Union pushes ahead with its Artificial Intelligence Bill, a key debate centers on whether to place all general artificial intelligence (AI) systems in the “high risk” classification, which would subject AI systems to the strictest safety and transparency requirements constraints. Technology companies such as OpenAI, Google and Microsoft have opposed the designation, arguing that only AI systems explicitly applied to high-risk use cases should be subject to such regulations.
