Pinterest announces plans to cut nearly 15% of its workforce in a restructuring effort to shift focus to artificial intelligence (AI). According to the Form 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the plan has been approved by the board of directors, including the elimination of positions affecting less than 15% of employees and the downsizing of office space.
The company states it is reallocating resources to roles and teams focused on AI, prioritizing the development of AI application products, and accelerating the transformation of sales strategies and market approaches. The restructuring process is expected to be completed by the end of the third fiscal quarter, with costs ranging from $35–45 million, primarily in cash.
Despite layoffs, Pinterest affirms it will reinvest in key growth areas and strategic opportunities. This move comes amid an increasing number of tech companies restructuring to adapt to the wave of AI and concerns about AI’s impact on employment.
