BlockBeats News, January 23 — Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin spoke during a Space session, saying:
"I personally used Farcaster more in 2023 and 2024. There are two reasons I’ve recently started paying attention to decentralized social media. One is that I think Twitter’s chat quality is particularly poor; it’s not suitable as the world’s chat hub, so we need more options. The other is ‘network effects.’ Maybe your new product has a better algorithm and better privacy protection, but if you don’t have users, all of that is meaningless.
Firefly has two features that can break through this dilemma: it is a decentralized social media platform, but it’s also a multi-platform gateway. It can be a Twitter client or a Farcaster client. Users can use Firefly without leaving Twitter, which solves the ‘network effects’ problem."
