BlockBeats news, on October 16, the OpenTensor Foundation tweeted that Bittensor has restored the registration and deregistration mechanism for subnets, with a subnet cap of 128. New subnets will replace the lowest-performing subnets and will have a 4-month immunity period. This update incentivizes subnet teams to prove their value or free up space, increasing competition and project quality. The TAO from deregistered subnets will be proportionally allocated to alpha holders, unlocking TAO that has been stranded in inactive liquidity pools and redirecting it to more active areas of the network. New subnet registrations will incur a destruction cost rather than a locking cost, with the current cost being 2500 TAO.
