According to the TechFlow news, on February 8th, the parents of the late OpenAI former researcher Suchir Balaji filed a lawsuit against the city of San Francisco and the San Francisco Police Department, questioning whether their son's death was a murder rather than a suicide. The lawsuit alleges that the police classified the case as a suicide without conducting a thorough investigation. According to the lawsuit, a forensic pathologist hired by the family found a gunshot wound on the deceased's forehead, with an unusual bullet trajectory and contusion to the back of the head. It is worth noting that Balaji had revealed in an interview with The New York Times that he had helped the company use a large amount of internet data without permission during his time at OpenAI. The discovery of his body occurred a week after The New York Times mentioned this whistleblower in its lawsuit documents.
