Bitcoin Dominance Hits 60.66%: Is Altcoin Season Cancelled for 2026?

$BTC has officially reclaimed its throne, with its market dominance $BTC breaking out to 60.66% this week. This move effectively ends an eight-month accumulation phase and sets a direct path toward the cycle peak of 66%. Both weekly and daily indicators, including a surging MACD and an overbought RSI, confirm that capital is aggressively rotating out of altcoins and back into the safety of the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

Despite the prevailing bearishness for smaller assets, the Altcoin Season Index has plummeted to 37, firmly remaining in "Bitcoin Season" territory. While some analysts point to a long-term trendline break in the $ETH /$BTC pair as a glimmer of hope, historical patterns suggest that altcoins rarely rally significantly until $BTC achieves new all-time highs. With experts drawing parallels to the late-cycle patterns of 2019, many believe a broad "altseason" is unlikely to materialize before the end of 2026.
