just reading about how elon finally brought in linda yaccarino to run twitter back in may 2023. honestly didn't think it would happen after he took over for $44 billion in october 2022 and said he'd find someone to actually run the thing lol. she came from nbc universal's advertising side, which makes sense since elon was always obsessed with growing the ad revenue and turning it into 'the everything app' or whatever.
what's wild is she had like 19 years at turner doing advertising sales before that, so she definitely knew her way around the business. apparently they met at some conference where she interviewed elon about free speech and advertiser protection, and i guess that's when he decided she was the right fit. she's also involved with the world economic forum and some talent management group, so she had the connections he needed.
so elon stepped back to executive chair and CTO to focus on product stuff, and yaccarino took the ceo role. the whole rebrand to X Corp happened around the same time. looking back now, it's interesting how much of the twitter strategy hinged on fixing the advertising model. you think it actually worked out?
