So I've been thinking about what the best cryptos to buy now for someone just starting out, and honestly, if you've got $500 to invest and you're willing to hold for years, Bitcoin keeps coming back as the obvious choice.

I know that sounds boring compared to all the altcoin hype, but there's actually solid logic here. Bitcoin doesn't need to promise you crazy new features or compete with anything. It just needs to exist as a store of value, and that's kind of the point. The code is designed to cap supply at 21 million coins maximum, and we're already at about 20 million in circulation. The rest have to be mined, and here's the thing - the mining difficulty doubles roughly every four years. By around 2140, all the coins will be out there. That's built-in scarcity.

You don't need a whole Bitcoin either. With $500, you can grab a fraction of a coin and still benefit from that increasing scarcity over time. The key assumption is that people will keep valuing Bitcoin as digital money, which seems like a reasonable bet after all these years.

What's actually changed in recent years is how accessible Bitcoin has become. Bitcoin ETFs now exist, which means you can buy it through a regular brokerage or retirement account without needing wallet software or technical knowledge. That's huge because it integrates Bitcoin into the traditional financial system, making it easier for more capital to flow into it. Most other cryptos don't have that kind of on-ramp.

Obviously, Bitcoin still moves around a lot. It can drop hard and stay down for a while, so this only makes sense if you're genuinely planning to hold for years and not touch it. But if you're comfortable with that timeline, then Bitcoin remains one of the best cryptos to buy now for a long-term play.

The volatility risk is real though. If you need your money in the next few years, this isn't the move. But if you're thinking decades and can stomach the swings, this is probably the lowest-complexity crypto entry point. After you've got some Bitcoin, sure, you could diversify into other stuff if you want to take more risk. But for a first $500 crypto investment, best cryptos to buy now honestly still points back to the original.
