Just been looking at the 2024 car market and it's honestly wild how expensive everything still is. Prices haven't really come down like people thought they would after COVID. Manufacturers keep pushing those expensive models with all the trim options, which means if you actually want something affordable, your options are super limited.
I found out that back in early 2024, only like 9 models out of 275 available were under $25k, and just 2 were under $20k. Crazy, right? But here's the thing - the cheapest cars available now are actually way more reliable and fuel-efficient than before. They're not cheap in a bad way anymore.
So I looked into the actual affordable options and there's some decent picks if you're on a budget. The Nissan Versa is the cheapest at around $16,390 and it's actually solid - good safety ratings, spacious trunk, comfortable enough. Mirage comes in second at $16,695 with killer fuel economy (39 combined). Both beat out more expensive competitors in value.
If you want something slightly more upscale, the Kia Forte ($19,990) and Hyundai Venue ($19,990) are worth considering. The Forte's got great fuel economy and the Venue has solid cargo space. Nissan Sentra ($20,890) is another option with good safety features, though it's a bit noisy.
Reliability scores vary though - Kia Forte scores 67/100 which is decent, but some like the VW Jetta only hit 25/100, so you gotta check that. Overall, if you're shopping for the cheapest 2024 car options right now, you're not necessarily getting garbage. Just do your homework on reliability first.
