Recently, more and more people around me have started to get involved in cryptocurrencies, but many beginners still don't quite understand what ví tiền điện tử is. I thought I’d organize some of what I know, maybe it can help those who want to enter this market.

Speaking of ví tiền điện tử, it’s actually a tool used to store and manage digital assets. Some might think, do I keep my coins in a wallet? Not exactly. Your cryptocurrencies actually exist on the blockchain, and the wallet’s role is to help you safeguard the keys needed to access those assets. Simply put, a wallet is like a combination of a key and a lock — the public key is like your bank account number, which you can share to receive transfers; the private key is like your bank password, which you must never share with anyone.

The main purposes of ví tiền điện tử are: first, to send and receive digital currencies; second, to track your transaction history; third, to prove that those coins truly belong to you. Wallets display your account balance, allowing you to see your asset changes in real time.

Currently, wallets on the market are divided into two main categories. Hot wallets are those that are always connected to the internet, allowing you to trade anytime, anywhere — very convenient. But the downside is that they are relatively less secure; if you accidentally click on a malicious link, there’s a risk. Cold wallets, on the other hand, are standalone hardware devices stored offline for long-term holding, only connecting to the internet when you need to make a transaction. They are much safer, but more expensive — usually costing around two to three million VND — and transaction speeds can be a bit slower.

For hot wallets, there are some well-known options. Some are blockchain-based wallets with encrypted data storage and support for two-factor authentication, making them fairly secure. There are also wallets provided by some trading platforms; they are simple to operate but may have limited features. In Vietnam, many people use local platform wallets that support trading Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other mainstream coins directly with Vietnamese dong, offering fast transactions and user-friendly interfaces.

If you want higher security, cold wallets are a good choice. Ledger Nano is a very popular product, supporting a wide range of coins, with a clear display screen and comprehensive features. Trezor is another early hardware wallet, supporting multiple cryptocurrencies, easy to set up, with strong encryption, and it also allows data backup and recovery.

Overall, choosing what kind of ví tiền điện tử depends on your needs. If you trade frequently, hot wallets are more convenient; if you hold assets long-term, cold wallets offer more peace of mind. Regardless, pick a reliable wallet and keep your private keys safe — this is the most basic step to participating in the crypto market.
