The Treasure of Deep-Sea Divers — I Found 10 Bitcoin Private Keys in a Sunken Ship
My name is Mike, a professional shipwreck diver.
In March 2026, I discovered a smuggling ship that sank in the Caribbean at a depth of 300 meters. Inside the cabin, there was a waterproof safe. When I opened it, there were no gold coins, only a rusty USB drive and a decayed notebook. The notebook had a string of words: “pizza, moon, hodl, 123456.”
The Secret in the USB Drive
I took the USB back to the surface and plugged it into my computer — it was a Bitcoin paper wallet file. Using the mnemonic phrase from the notebook, I managed to open it! The wallet contained 10.37 BTC. It was created in 2015, and the last login was in 2018 — the year the ship sank. The owner might have been lost at sea.
Searching for the Heir
With the help of Gate.io, I tried to trace the history of this address. I found that it had received a transfer in 2017 from “BitcoinTalk forum user @CryptoDiver.” I posted online looking for his family. Three days later, an elderly woman contacted me: “That’s my son. He went missing in the Caribbean in 2018.” I returned all the BTC to her. She cried and wanted to give me half, but I refused. I only took 0.01 BTC as a keepsake.
April Challenge
I used that 0.01 BTC to post on Gate.io’s forum, documenting this experience. The post went viral. Some called me a fool, others called me a saint. All I want to say is: some things are more valuable than Bitcoin, like a mother’s comfort in her later years. Now, the elderly woman is using that 10 BTC to pay her grandson’s college tuition. As for me, I keep diving. Next time, I might find Satoshi Nakamoto’s hard drive.
