Dr Lin Han, as he is often called, is the founder and CEO of Gate.io.
In 2009, Dr Lin Han graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Software Engineering from Peking University
Later on, he went on to pursue a Master's degree and graduated in Mathematics and Computer Science major in 2010. He is a Chinese scientist and crypto enthusiast
Shortly after his Master's degree, Dr Han stumbled upon the Bitcoin whitepaper by chance
He lost about $2000 to scammers while trying to purchase $BTC (100 units, to be specific). This stumbling block was an inspiration for Dr Lin Han's desire to create a secure 'gateway to crypto'. He achieved this by founding his own platform for trading digital assets.
Following years of experience in technological and product development, Dr Lin Han launched the website Bter in April 2013 under Chinese jurisdiction.
2 years later (2015), Bter lost over 7,000 BTC to a hack. This reshaped the company's ethos as they invested heavily on security and users' assets protection
However, as Beijing tightened its stance on the crypto sector in 2017, Bter was rebranded as GATE.IO
So far, Gate.io;
• has served over 50 million users worldwide across its CEX and DEX
• has obtained regulatory licenses in countries like Dubai, Japan, U.S...
• currently ranks Top 2 globally in spot trading volume and Top 4 in derivatives trading, with over $12 billion in total assets under custody
• supports over 3,000 coins and tokens
• launched its native token, $GT , at $0.43 in 2019
• encourages content creators of all categories by appreciating their efforts and creativity through campaigns and contests
• generates revenue for streamers and host training sessions on how to improve and make better livestreams
Dr Han's story truly inspires me cause it shows that having an ugly past doesn't mean you won't have a bright future. It's just about being resilient, persistent and diligent in what you do
Lastly, be open to growth. Cause I'm sure this wasn't how Gate.io started. Every feature was eventually integrated
