U.S. destroyer contacts supply ship in the Caribbean, 2 personnel lightly injured
According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, it has been revealed that a U.S. Navy destroyer and supply ship collided in the Caribbean Sea. The incident is being monitored by the U.S. Southern Command, and an investigation into the details of the accident is underway. The vessels involved are the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Truxtun and the Supply-class fast combat support ship USNS Supply, which reportedly came into contact during replenishment operations.
Details of the Collision Between Both Vessels, Including the Destroyer
USS Truxtun is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer based in Norfolk, Virginia, and was sailing out on a scheduled deployment mission on February 6. Meanwhile, USNS Supply was already engaged in a replenishment mission in the Caribbean Sea when the collision occurred during fueling operations.
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Southern Command in the southern Caribbean, an area that also includes parts of the South Atlantic and South Pacific. According to Jin10, two crew members sustained minor injuries from the collision but are currently in stable condition. Both vessels remain operational, and it is believed that the incident has minimally impacted their missions.
Investigation and Response Measures
Colonel Emmanuel Ortiz of the U.S. Southern Command stated that an investigation into the cause of the collision is currently ongoing. The specific location of the accident has not been disclosed for safety reasons.
Authorities are continuing detailed investigations of both vessels, including the destroyer, and are considering measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The U.S. Navy’s deployment operations are ongoing, and it is expected that this incident will not significantly affect overall activities in the Caribbean Sea.
