Aave is making significant moves to streamline its product portfolio and concentrate firepower on its core DeFi business. Founder Stani.eth has outlined plans to phase out the Family iOS wallet in a structured manner, marking a strategic pivot in the protocol’s direction. According to Foresight News, this decision reflects Aave’s commitment to optimizing resource allocation and sharpening its market positioning in the increasingly competitive decentralized finance landscape.

Planned Discontinuation of Family Wallet and Brand Consolidation

The Family iOS wallet will be gradually sunset as Aave reorients its business focus. Meanwhile, Aave Labs has decided to retire the Avara umbrella brand structure that previously encompassed both the Family and Lens product lines. This organizational restructuring indicates a deliberate choice to eliminate distractions and redirect attention to what matters most. The Lens protocol, which had been part of this portfolio, is transitioning to Mask’s management, allowing specialized teams to develop the social layer independently.

Doubling Down on DeFi Excellence

The core rationale behind these moves centers on resource concentration. By stepping back from adjacent products and experimental ventures, Aave Labs can invest more substantially in strengthening the Aave brand and deepening its DeFi capabilities. In a market where attention and capital are finite resources, focusing exclusively on decentralized finance allows Aave to establish clearer competitive advantages and maintain its leadership position in the lending protocol space.

Family Accounts Remain as Infrastructure

Despite discontinuing the retail-facing Family iOS wallet, Aave isn’t abandoning the underlying infrastructure entirely. Family Accounts will persist as a foundational layer within the Aave App ecosystem, supporting advanced features and use cases for power users. This nuanced approach preserves valuable technical capabilities while shifting consumer-facing efforts toward the main protocol experience.

The strategic reorientation underscores Aave’s recognition that excellence in DeFi requires undivided focus and disciplined capital allocation in an era of competing priorities.
