Nevada authorities have applied to the court for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to prevent Coinbase from operating “derivatives exchanges and prediction markets” related to sports betting.
This lawsuit comes less than a week after Coinbase announced a partnership with Kalshi to launch prediction markets in all 50 states. Although the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulates Kalshi at the federal level, the platform still faces legal challenges from state regulators.
Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Mike Dreitzer stated on Tuesday, “The board is committed to fulfilling its duties to promote a thriving gaming industry and protect Nevada citizens.” Notably, last week, a Nevada court also issued a temporary restraining order against Polymarket operators.
