‏Oracle is considering laying off approximately 30,000 employees
Reports indicate that Oracle is studying the possibility of laying off between 20,000 to 30,000 employees, and may sell the 「Cerner」 unit specializing in healthcare technologies, in order to provide the necessary liquidity to meet its obligations related to a large contract with OpenAI.
The contract with OpenAI requires massive capital expenditure on infrastructure and chips, which has led to investor concerns, increased credit risk indicators for Oracle, and US banks withdrawing funding for data center projects associated with it. The company has also started requesting large upfront payments from clients to improve cash flow.
Selling 「Cerner」 is a radical retreat from this approach and could have direct impacts on hospitals and employees who rely on its systems.
