Pi Network KYC Verification 2024: Complete Guide to Successful Approval

Pi Network is a digital currency developed by Stanford doctors with over 47 million users worldwide. The KYC verification (Know Your Customer) is an essential prerequisite for Pi Network users to transfer their minted Pi Coins to the mainnet and conduct transactions.

Although the KYC process is generally straightforward, many users report difficulties with document uploads, live verification, and automated recognition. This guide covers all necessary requirements and steps for successful KYC approval and answers the most common questions.

Requirements and prerequisites for Pi Network KYC application

Before the application process, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum age: You must be 18 years or older
  • Valid ID: A government-issued document is required (Passport is recommended, alternatively driver’s license or national ID). You need to take a current photo of the ID, do not upload from storage
  • Recognizable face: The system requires a clear selfie for live verification. Your face must be clearly visible and match the ID photo
  • At least 30 days of activity: You must have mined Pi for at least 30 days (not necessarily consecutively)
  • Time commitment: The entire process takes about 5 to 10 minutes

Note: Exact requirements and availability may vary depending on country or region.

Step-by-step guide to KYC verification

Step 1: Preparation Install the Pi Browser app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store if you haven’t already.

Step 2: Navigate to Mainnet Open the Pi Network app and navigate to the Mainnet section via the side menu.

Step 3: Complete checklist Select the Mainnet checklist and complete all tasks listed before the KYC review. Once finished, the KYC application tab will be unlocked.

Step 4: Access KYC area Tap on the KYC application tab or manually go to the “kyc.pi" section in the Pi Browser app.

Step 5: Select country and ID type First, choose your country from the dropdown (as indicated on your ID). Then, select the ID type you will use for verification.

Step 6: Follow instructions The system displays four slides with detailed instructions for correctly capturing your ID. Read these carefully.

Step 7: Take ID photos Tap “Add front photo” and take a clear picture of the front of your ID. If your ID has a back with important information, photograph that as well. Use horizontal (landscape) orientation.

Step 8: Enter personal data After uploading, you will be directed to a form. Fill in the following fields:

  • First name
  • Middle name (optional)
  • Last name
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • ID number
  • ID expiration date
  • Country of residence

Step 9: Perform live verification Click “I am ready,” which activates the front camera. Hold the device so your face is clearly visible. The system automatically captures your photo for identity confirmation.

How long does KYC approval take?

After submitting your application, processing can take from a few days up to several months. In rare cases, approval occurs within minutes if all information is correct and sufficient human reviewers are available in your region. If your documents are unclear, the system may prompt you to repeat the captures.

Check KYC status

To check your application status, visit your profile in the Pi Network app. A green checkmark next to “Identity verification” indicates successful verification. A loading animation means the application is still pending. Alternatively, check the Mainnet checklist area – if the tab “Waiting for KYC results” turns green, your verification is complete.

Note: Even after approval, the checklist may sometimes not turn green. This is often due to application errors. Therefore, rely primarily on the status in the Pi KYC app within the Pi Browser.

How does the verification system work?

Due to the large user base, Pi Network implements a community-based verification system. After successful submission, your application is forwarded to already verified users. These act as verifiers from your country, speeding up and simplifying the process. The application undergoes at least two independent checks. If it passes both, you receive approval. A Pi coin is used to compensate the verifiers for this service.
