Recently, Vitalik Buterin posed a sharp question — can Ethereum withstand the test of "leaving at any time"?
In other words, if the core team stops maintenance, can Ethereum continue to operate? His answer is: it must.
This is not some vague ideal. Vitalik's logic is very hardcore: Ethereum shouldn't be a "product" of a certain team, but should become a "infrastructure" like the law of universal gravitation. Once deployed, it should operate independently, without anyone needing to care for it.
**Where is the current problem?** Ethereum is still constantly iterating — various protocol upgrades, parameter adjustments, new features上线. These changes make Ethereum vibrant, but also mean it hasn't truly "settled" yet.
**What needs to be done next?** The community should focus on several hardcore goals in the coming years: resistance to quantum computing, scalable architecture, sustainable state models, robust proof-of-stake economic design, censorship-resistant block construction mechanisms. Ideally, progress should be made in at least one of these areas each year.
**Will innovation stop?** No. But the direction of innovation will change — shifting from frequent hard forks to micro-level iterations like client optimization and parameter fine-tuning. Laying a solid foundation once is more cost-effective than constantly patching.

actually, if you analyze the data on state bloat and client overhead, eth's still massively sub-optimal. foundational work? sure, but we're talking decades of optimization cycles before it's truly decoupled from active maintenance. gas inefficient roadmap imho

Looking at V God’s theory, there’s nothing wrong with it. Getting the infrastructure stable is indeed much more reliable than frequent patching.

ngl, the "foundation over patches" thesis hits different after watching bridges implode for the nth time. if eth can actually achieve that level of stability without constant hard forks... that's the real endgame play, not another L2 scaling promise.
