Hodkinson says XRP DeFi is coming

In a recent conversation with Scott Melker, Input Output Global CEO Charles Hoskinson stated that XRP's DeFi is "close to emergence."
"Midnight connects all other blockchains, and we add privacy to all these touchpoints, so we have a lot to offer and deliver," he said.
Privacy Layer
Cardano launched its partner series, Midnight, in late 2025. It uses zero-knowledge encryption (ZK) to enable private smart contracts.
Hoskinson proposed wrapping XRP on Midnight. This allows XRP holders to use their tokens in complex DeFi applications (borrowing, lending, yield farming) with the ability to keep transaction data confidential. This is something the public XRPL alone cannot do.
This aims to unlock an estimated $100 billion of unused XRP liquidity. Midnight could become the "privacy layer" for the XRP system.
In December, Hoskinson also unexpectedly engaged with the XRP community, requesting a list of the "15 leading projects" to invite projects to a collaborative decentralized finance initiatives conference at the University of Edinburgh.
Input Output Global (IOG) announced its commitment to integrating native XRP support into the Lace (official Cardano wallet) application.
