I have to be honest, since mid-2025 I have been accumulating WAL. I was initially attracted by that cute walrus and thought it was just an ordinary storage project. Unexpectedly, after more than half a year of tinkering, this project has become more and more addictive.
As of January 10th, WAL's price is around $0.147, with a 24-hour increase of 6%, trading volume surpassing $80 million, and the total staking amount stable above 1 billion tokens. The portion I staked itself offers an APY that isn't explosive, but the daily rewards are stable and reliable, much more trustworthy than many meme coins. More importantly, the deflationary effect is beginning to show—burning storage fees through the token burn mechanism is no joke. The more users there are (currently AI dataset and game asset uploads are exploding), the scarcer WAL becomes in circulation. I roughly calculated that over the past half year, my holdings have shrunk passively due to deflation, but their value has actually increased.
The actual user experience is even better: uploading blobs costs almost nothing, privacy protection is detailed enough, private transaction features are about to go live, and I finally feel that my data is truly in my own hands. In the short term, this rebound is supported by trading volume, and the technical indicators look good; in the long term, the heat of the Sui ecosystem combined with the demand for AI data storage will continue to strengthen WAL's value capture ability. To put it simply, it’s not the kind of short-term hype, but a slow warming and steady profit-making process.
Of course, risks always exist, and I’m not encouraging anything. But the performance over the past half year is enough to make me believe that when this walrus truly "sheds weight" one day, those who held on early will reap considerable benefits.
