Is Bitcoin facing a quantum computing threat? What do experts think

Regarding the impact of quantum computing on Bitcoin, the crypto community has been actively discussing it. The two main camps have very different viewpoints.

One side is the radicals, represented by Nic Carter. They believe the preparatory work will take about 10 years. The progress of quantum computing might be faster than we imagine, and early planning is necessary to ensure security.

The other side is the conservatives, led by Adam Back. Their judgment is that there is at least a 20 to 40-year window. Quantum computing is still far from reaching a threatening level, so there's no need to rush.

In essence, both sides agree that quantum computing is a potential threat, but they differ on the timeline of its arrival. This discussion is quite important—it involves Bitcoin's long-term security strategy. If action needs to be taken within 10 years, then research into alternatives should start now; otherwise, the industry still has ample time to respond.
