Non-farm data releases positive signals, tariff rulings become the next market variable

【Chain Wen】U.S. stocks edged higher on Friday, with December non-farm payroll data not overturning market expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged for now. Meanwhile, all eyes are on the Supreme Court’s upcoming ruling on the legality of Trump’s tariff policies.

Cayla Seder, a macro multi-asset strategist at State Street Bank, analyzed that this labor data sends a key signal—the market is no longer worried about an overheating economy. The data is strong enough to suggest that the economic fundamentals are still solid, but not so strong as to cause traders to completely change their view on the Fed’s policy path. This “lukewarm” situation instead provides a boost to the stock market.

The bigger suspense lies on the tariff front. Trump’s comprehensive tariff policy launched in April once caused market tension. Now, the Supreme Court’s ruling could be another watershed for stocks and bonds this year. If the court rules tariffs unconstitutional, corporate profit margins could improve, consumer wallets could feel less pressure, and the stock market might rebound. However, from a bond perspective, such stimulus could complicate the Fed’s rate cut plans and exacerbate government budget deficits, putting pressure on Treasuries.

For crypto traders, these macro variables are equally worth paying attention to—any shifts in U.S. stocks, bonds, and policy expectations will directly influence capital flows between different assets.

Tariffs feel like another gamble. Let's wait for the court ruling.

Not too hot, not too cold—maybe that's the most stable? I’m familiar with this trick, just worried that a court ruling might ruin this game.

Not too hot, not too cold—this is the most comfortable rhythm for the bulls. Tariff rulings are the real game-changer; just wait and see how the court rules, and the market will go crazy. This batch of data is just right; let's forget about giving the Fed a reason to hike rates. We'll only know the next move once the tariff shoe drops. This non-farm payroll change can't be contained at all; we still need to see what Trump side does.

Not too hot, not too cold, the most comfortable—this is the rhythm the market wants. Tariffs are the real bombshell; let's wait and see how the Supreme Court rules. It's another situation that looks good but actually has nothing settled... Ultimately, it still depends on how the court rules; discussing it now is pointless. Non-farm payroll data is just like that; the real drama is in the tariffs. This kind of "just right" economic situation is what the market loves most, with maximum stability. How likely is it that tariffs are found unconstitutional? Feels uncertain. Wait, is the Federal Reserve really not moving this time? That's a bit surprising. If tariffs are truly overturned, tech stocks will go wild; profit margins will improve significantly. Not too hot, not too cold? I think this is just the calm before the storm.

Hmm... Tariff rulings are the real main event; non-farm data are just clouds Once the court makes a final decision, the market will turn upside down Feels like this time, the outcome will truly be decided Waiting and watching, expecting the Supreme Court to make a big move The key still depends on how the court rules; everything else is just a backdrop
