TXID: your key to blockchain transparency

Why is it important to understand transaction ID?

In the world of cryptocurrencies, every transaction leaves a trace. This trace is the transaction ID ( also known as the transaction hash or TXID ). It acts as a unique passport for each transaction on the blockchain, allowing you to track, verify, and confirm any operation.

TXID is created by applying a cryptographic hash function to all the details of your transaction — from the sender and receiver addresses to the amount of cryptocurrency. The result is a unique set of characters that can be viewed and verified through a blockchain explorer.

How it works: from theory to practice

Bitcoin, the oldest crypto network, uses the SHA-256 algorithm to generate these identifiers. The hash function processes transaction data and outputs a 64-character hexadecimal code. These transactions are the foundation of blockchain transparency.

The first historical transaction on Bitcoin was a transfer from Satoshi Nakamoto to Hal Finney with TXID: F4184fc596403b9d638783cf57adfe4c75c605f6356fbc91338530e9831e9e16

The well-known transaction of buying pizza with Bitcoin has TXID: Cca7507897abc89628f450e8b1e0c6fca4ec3f7b34cccf55f3f531c659ff4d79

You can independently investigate these transactions by downloading any public blockchain explorer, such as blockchain.com or blockchair.com.

Where to track your transactions?

All data about the TXID is available through public blockchain explorers. This means complete transparency — anyone can verify information about the address, amount, and time of any transaction. While the names of the parties remain anonymous, specialized analysis methods can still establish connections between addresses and their owners.

Obtaining transaction IDs on cryptocurrency exchanges

When you deposit or withdraw funds from a centralized exchange (, for example, from Binance), the platform automatically generates a TXID for your transaction. On Binance, this information can be found in the “Transaction History” section. Clicking on a specific TXID will take you to the corresponding entry in the blockchain explorer.

This is especially useful if you accidentally sent funds to the wrong address or blockchain. The TXID allows you and the support service to investigate the situation. However, a return is not guaranteed — it is always better to contact the support service of the platform that received the funds.

Practical significance of TXID

The transaction ID is an indispensable tool for three main purposes: verifying the correctness of transactions, maintaining detailed records of all your transfers, and troubleshooting in case of issues. Understanding this mechanism makes you a more confident user of the crypto space.
