90% of people haven't truly understood what a Token is, yet they've already gone All in.

#BTC / #ETH / #SOL Brothers, today let’s talk about something that seems basic but is seriously underestimated.

If you haven’t figured out a question by now—what exactly is a Token?—then honestly, many of your investments in the crypto world are not truly investments, but bets based on feelings.

Let’s start with a fundamental statement

I’ll give you a simple yet sufficiently essential definition:

A Token, in essence, is a “unit of accounting that represents something.”

Note that in English, the word token is not originally “currency,” but:

something that represents something else

Once you truly understand the word “represent,”

you’ll realize that 80% of debates in the crypto space are actually unnecessary to argue about on the spot.

What exactly can a Token represent?

Many people subconsciously think:

Token = currency = something used for trading.

This is the first big misconception.

In the crypto world, what a Token can represent is almost limitless, such as:

  • Completed work or contributions (computing power, labor, participation)
  • Real-world assets (stocks, bonds, real estate, i.e., RWA)
  • Company equity or economic rights
  • Usage rights, tickets, access
  • Governance rights, voting rights
  • Collectibles, copyrights, NFTs
  • Network fuel, settlement units

The key point is: there’s only one sentence—Tokens are not a specific thing, but a “way to express and map value.”

What about Bitcoin? Is it different?

Many people deify BTC, as if it doesn’t belong to the “Token” category.

But from a definition standpoint:

Bitcoin is also fundamentally a Token.

So what does it represent?

One sentence:

It represents: verified, immutable computational work (Proof of Work).

The difference between BTC and other Tokens is not “whether it is a Token,” but:

  • Fixed supply
  • Only produced through mining
  • Extremely simple functionality

In other words, BTC doesn’t not represent something; it only represents one thing: computational power + scarcity.

Why is the Token world of ETH / SOL completely different?

Because they are execution blockchains (Execution Blockchain).

What does that mean?

Simply put: On these chains, Tokens can be defined by programs.

On Ethereum, Solana:

  • You can issue countless types of Tokens
  • Each Token can have different rules, uses, and logic
  • Tokens become “programmable financial and rights carriers”

This is also why:

DeFi, NFT, RWA, GameFi, SocialFi can only emerge on execution chains, not on Bitcoin itself.

The real value of Layer 1 native Tokens, many people misunderstand this

Like ETH, SOL—these are called Layer 1 native Tokens.

What are their true roles?

They are not “tokens of a specific application,” but:

  • The native settlement currency of the blockchain
  • The fuel for network operation (Gas)
  • The value anchor for all Tokens in the ecosystem

Here’s a very key point, but few have seriously thought about it:

All Tokens issued on Ethereum or Solana are essentially derivatives of ETH / SOL.

Because:

  • Transactions are paid with them
  • Their security is endorsed by them
  • All value ultimately needs to be converted back to the native Token

Why can truly understanding Tokens help you lose less money?

Because your questions will change.

You will shift from:

“Will this coin go up?”

To:

“Does what it represents actually meet a real need?”

You will shift from:

“Is this narrative appealing?”

To:

“Is the L1 it depends on, along with its users, transactions, and value, continuously expanding?”

This is a fundamental shift from gambling on emotions to judging the flow of value.

The last sentence, a gift to all brothers in the market

Education and understanding are the highest-return, lowest-risk leverage in investing.

If you don’t understand Tokens, you’re just holding chips;

If you understand Tokens, you’ll know what you’re really holding.

Now, that Token in your hand,

what exactly is it “representing”?

This question is worth reconsidering.
