Just been diving into the rare currency market and honestly, some of these old bills are insane. Like, there are bills out there worth more than houses. The most expensive dollar bill ever recorded is supposedly an 1890 Grand Watermelon $1,000 note that hit $3.3 million at auction. Wild right? Then you've got the 1891 Red Seal $1,000 note sitting at $2.5 million. These aren't even the only ones worth serious money.

I've been looking at what's actually available for collectors without needing to drop millions. There's a whole range of bills from the late 1800s and early 1900s that fetch decent prices. Gold certificates from 1928, Indian Chief silver certificates from 1899, large size notes from the 1920s - most of these are going anywhere from $1k to $8k depending on condition. Saw a 1899 Indian Chief certificate in uncirculated condition listed at over $8,600. Even the 1928 $2 Red Seal notes are hitting $2,800+.

The thing about valuable bills is condition matters everything. You want uncirculated if possible, but even 'about uncirculated' can fetch good money. There's also the weird stuff like that 1936 British £500 Bank of England note that apparently sold for $31k a few years back. And some international pieces too - saw a Malta £5 from 1967 going for over $6k.

If you're hunting for valuable currency, the key is looking for oddities - misprints, unusual sizes, high serial numbers, different denominations on front and back. Apps like NoteSnap help, and local coin dealers can evaluate stuff. There are also online forums and auction houses that'll check your bills for free. Worth checking your stash if you've got any old paper money lying around.
