General Electric (GE) has proposed constructing two rail sidings in Pittsfield and Lenox, Massachusetts, to facilitate the transportation of PCB-contaminated sediments from its “Rest of River” cleanup of the Housatonic River. This revised transportation plan, conditionally approved by the EPA in 2024, moves away from a truck-heavy approach to primarily use trains. An online hearing will be held Thursday to present the plans, allowing for public questions and comments until April 16.
