126.1 billion yuan China's science fiction industry total revenue exceeds 100 billion yuan for three consecutive years
On March 27, the 2026 China Science Fiction Conference opened. The China Popular Science Research Institute released the “2026 China Science Fiction Industry Report,” stating that in 2025, the total revenue of the Chinese science fiction industry reached 126.1 billion yuan, breaking the 100 billion yuan mark for three consecutive years.
The report shows that the science fiction reading industry generated an annual revenue of 5.19 billion yuan, achieving growth for eight consecutive years, with science fiction online literature becoming the core growth driver of digital reading.
The science fiction film and television industry generated an annual revenue of 8.16 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 21.6%, with the influence of domestic science fiction dramas and animations continuing to rise, and AIGC short videos accelerating their emergence.
The gaming industry generated an annual revenue of 77.91 billion yuan, with domestic science fiction games performing well in overseas markets.
The science fiction derivative products industry generated an annual revenue of 7.07 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 179.4%, with original IP being the core driving force of the market, and new forms of products such as AI trendy toys injecting new vitality into the market.
The science fiction cultural tourism industry generated an annual revenue of 27.77 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.8%. Theme parks contributed core income, and the number of local original amusement projects continued to increase. New scenarios such as VR large spaces, immersive exhibitions, and script entertainment continuously expand the boundaries of experience.
In addition, this year’s report added two new observation dimensions: the revenue from science fiction technology equipment reached 24.74 billion yuan, forming a cross-border application pattern characterized by digital content production technology, led by AI, and featuring immersive experiences; the search popularity of Chinese science fiction increased by 203.3% year-on-year, with the overseas audience scale of phenomenon-level IP continuing to expand.
The report analyzes that, overall, the Chinese science fiction industry has formed a multi-dimensional pattern of collaborative development across five major sectors, continuously expanding growth space in new fields such as technology equipment and international communication.
