Odaily Planet Daily reports that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed amendments to Rule 15c2-11 of the Securities Exchange Act on March 16. The rule sets forth information collection and review requirements for broker-dealers that publish quotes or maintain continuous quotation markets in over-the-counter trading. The proposed amendments would explicitly limit the scope of Rule 15c2-11 to equity securities. SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins stated that regulations should be appropriately tailored to the asset class they apply to, and this proposal aims to clarify regulatory obligations when publishing quotes. The proposal has been published on the SEC website, with a public comment period of 60 days from the date of publication in the Federal Register.
