Malaysian authorities are cracking down on illegal cryptocurrency mining activities following a series of coordinated police raids in Hilir Perak. During three operations in Teluk Intan, authorities seized 41 mining machines believed to be used for illegal cryptocurrency mining. The raids took place from the evening of January 9th to the early morning of January 10th, targeting three different locations. No arrests have been made so far, as officials are still investigating the ownership of the equipment.

Although cryptocurrency mining is legal in Malaysia, stealing electricity from the national grid is illegal. Police suspect that the seized machines were illegally connected to avoid high electricity costs. In addition to causing financial losses, illegal mining operations pose risks of fires, damage to infrastructure, and destabilization of the power system. Authorities urge the public to avoid participating in these activities and to report any suspicious signs promptly.
