以太坊域名服务提供商ENS宣布，正式取消原计划在ENSv2中推出的Layer 2项目Namechain，转而直接在以太坊主网上发布升级后的协议。ENS首席开发者nick.eth表示，过去一年网络费用的剧烈下降，使得“为降低成本而上L2”的前提已不再成立。
在官方博文中，nick.eth指出，ENS注册的gas成本一年内已下降约99%，背后是以太坊一系列扩容升级带来的结构性变化。近期上线的Fusaka升级将单区块gas上限提升至6000万，是2025年初目标的两倍。他还透露，以太坊核心开发者正将2026年的目标上限定为2亿，相当于在当前基础上再提升三倍，而且这一规划尚未计入任何零知识扩展方案的潜在增量。
Namechain最早于2024年11月公布，定位为通过Rollup实现更便宜、更高效的域名注册环境。但nick.eth承认，生态条件已发生根本转变。过去的路线图假设主网扩展能力有限，L2才是必然选择，如今L1本身的吞吐和成本结构正在快速改善，直接在主网上构建变得可行且更具简洁性。
尽管放弃了独立L2，ENS并未停下协议升级的脚步。团队将重心集中在ENSv2本身的架构演进，包括全新的注册表体系、更清晰的所有权模型、更加可靠的名称过期处理机制，以及为每个域名配置独立注册表所带来的灵活性。这些改动旨在提升性能、可维护性与可扩展空间。
nick.eth同时强调，转向L1并不等于切断与L2生态的联系。ENSv2在设计上保留了高度互操作性，新注册流程也简化了跨链操作的复杂度，使不同网络上的域名体系更易协同。
在以太坊持续扩容、费用快速下行的背景下，ENS的转向被视为对主网长期可塑性的认可，也反映出基础设施层正在重新塑造应用层的技术决策逻辑。
