地緣政治導致的避險需求、美元信心下滑加上投資者強大的買盤，讓黃金近期相當強勢，今（28）日稍早更是突破 5,300 美元再創歷史新高。在此背景下，日本 IHI 重工研究員福島康之拋出個一個創新的研究：挑戰從海水裡提煉黃金！
從地底到海底的估值重構？
我們知道黃金很難挖，且地殼裡的存貨稀缺，科學家共識認為可開採儲量大約只剩 5 萬噸，而人類幾千年來也就挖了 23 萬噸左右，這是金價能持續飆漲背後的物理基礎原因之一。
但 IHI 正在挑戰這個邏輯。福島康之的團隊研發出一種叫「生物吸附（Bio-sorption）」的技術。簡單來說，就是利用特定藻類的化學特性，去抓取海水中的氯化金離子，再把它們還原成金屬狀態。這比傳統的化學置換乾淨多了，不用搞那些劇毒的氰化物。
但這裡有個巨大的「但是」：物理現實是冷酷的。根據數據分析，海水中的黃金濃度非常低，大約只有 0.03 ppt（兆分之一）。這是什麼概念？
想像你試圖從一整個標準奧運泳池的水中，想精準過濾出一粒鹽。即便金價噴到 5,300 美元，你要處理幾千萬噸海水才能拿到幾公克金子，那個能源與設備成本可能會讓你破產。
從海洋退回溫泉：聰明的商業妥協
好消息是，IHI 沒瘋。他們很清楚這點，所以沒打算明天就去抽乾太平洋。他們的策略轉向了「濃度」，鎖定日本國內的溫泉水和深層礦山廢水。
這些地方的金濃度比海水高出幾個量級，而且本來就是需要處理的環境負擔。把「採礦」變成「廢棄物資源化」，這才是這項技術真正的商業性感之處。
這有點像頁岩油革命的前夜，只要技術在低成本場景跑通了，未來的邊際成本就會像溜滑梯一樣下來。
投資者需要在意嗎？
至於你是否需要擔心金價可能會暴跌？
事實上，從海水煉金並非新構想，約 100 年前的諾貝爾化學獎得主、德國化學家哈伯就曾嘗試，企圖為戰後德國籌措賠款，最終卻因成本過高而放棄。以目前狀況來說，還沒有任何現成技術，能讓這種「海水煉金」在投資回報率上打敗傳統礦山。
不過這場實驗提醒我們：在這個科技指數級爆炸的時代，沒有任何一種資產的護城河是絕對不可逾越的，即使是黃金或是比特幣。
