So I was digging through some old coins the other day and got curious if any were actually worth something. Turns out there's a whole world of AI apps now that can literally scan coins and tell you their value instantly - which is wild because I remember my grandpa spending hours with reference books trying to figure this stuff out.

Started with CoinSnap since it seemed straightforward. You just snap a photo of both sides and it identifies the date and mint mark, then shows you what collectors are actually paying for it. The app even tracks your whole collection value which is kind of addictive to watch grow. Found out a few coins in my jar were worth way more than face value, which was a nice surprise.

Then I tried Coinoscope and it works similarly but shows you a list of matching coins so you can compare. The cool part is you can actually buy and sell through it if you find other collectors interested. It's basically an app to scan coins for value plus a little marketplace.

The third one, PCGS CoinFacts, is more serious - like if you actually want to learn about coin history and grading, not just the monetary value. They've got auction prices, condition ratings, and crazy high-res photos from their archives. It's overkill if you're just checking your change jar, but honestly kind of addictive if you get into the hobby.

Anyone else been surprised by what's hiding in their coin collection? These apps make it so easy to check now.
