Techub News reports that browser manufacturer Opera plans to replace its previous cash deal with Celo with a distribution of 160 million CELO tokens. The proposal has been submitted to Celo’s governance forum, aiming to replace quarterly USD rewards with a three-year token reward program. According to CoinMarketCap data, the circulating supply of CELO tokens is approximately 600 million, so the proposed distribution accounts for about 27% of the circulating supply and 16% of the maximum supply.

Opera and Celo stated that this change reflects the role of Opera’s self-custodied crypto wallet MiniPay on Celo. Since its launch in 2023, the wallet has reached 14 million registered users and processed 420 million transactions across 66 countries.
