A man in the U.S. state of Texas, Robert Dunlap, was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for running a scam by issuing a so-called “Meta-1 Coin” cryptocurrency supported by artworks by Picasso, Van Gogh, and Dalí, as well as gold assets. He was also ordered to compensate nearly 1,000 victims for their losses. The prosecutors said he fabricated the background of about $44 billion in gold and about $1 billion in art assets and forged audit information. The amount involved in the case exceeded $20 million. He had previously been found guilty of mail fraud by a federal jury. (The Block)
