Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The China-Pakistan Five-Point Initiative is open, and we welcome countries and international organizations to respond and participate.
Regarding the five-point proposal China and Pakistan put forward on March 31 to restore peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East regions, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated during a routine press conference on April 1 that this initiative is open and welcomes responses and participation from all countries and international organizations. Mao Ning said that on March 31, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Darel, exchanging in-depth views on the situation in the Gulf and Middle East and reaching important consensus. Both China and Pakistan issued a five-point proposal after the meeting to restore peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East, summarized as “Stop, Talk, Ensure,” meaning immediately cease hostilities, quickly start negotiations, ensure the safety of non-military targets, ensure the safety of shipping lanes, and uphold the primacy of the UN Charter. She said that the Iran conflict has lasted for a month, with spillover effects continuing to spread, causing increasingly serious impacts on regional and global peace and stability, and increasingly disrupting global energy supply stability, production and supply chains, and world economic development. This is not in line with the common interests of regional countries and the international community. Mao Ning stated that as important countries in the Global South, China and Pakistan are voicing rational and just appeals, aiming to promote greater international consensus and gather stronger joint efforts to help ease current tensions and restore peace and tranquility in the Gulf and Middle East as soon as possible. “This initiative is open, and we welcome responses and participation from all countries and international organizations,” Mao Ning said. China will continue to work closely with Pakistan and relevant parties to promote a constructive role in ceasefire and peace efforts. ( Xinhua News Agency )
