The world’s first panoramic carbon emission accounting system covering production, consumption, and natural sources—the “Panshi Yuheng Carbon Accounting Large Model” version 1.0—was released in Shanghai on April 8, marking a new breakthrough for China in the global carbon emission accounting field.
Greenhouse gas emissions lead to global climate change. Carbon emission accounting is an important basis for international climate commitments, a key foundation for international carbon pricing, and a crucial prerequisite for achieving peak carbon and carbon neutrality.
Led by the Shanghai Institute of Higher Studies of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the “Panshi Yuheng Carbon Accounting Large Model” aims to overcome bottlenecks such as high knowledge barriers, difficult data processing, long cycles, and low resolution faced by traditional carbon accounting. It reconstructs paradigms in the carbon accounting field through generative artificial intelligence, dynamically depicting global carbon flows and tracing carbon sources, and comprehensively enhancing China’s scientific and technological discourse power in global climate governance.
According to Wei Wei, Vice President of the Shanghai Institute of Higher Studies of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, “Panshi Yuheng” is built on the “Panshi Scientific Foundation Large Model” developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Its technical architecture constructs a three-layer support system of data, algorithms, and computing power. Based on tracking carbon flows in production processes, tracing cross-border trade carbon transfers, and mapping the spatial distribution of carbon emissions, it establishes a high-precision carbon hologram covering social and spatial dimensions. Meanwhile, to meet application needs, it has built a data set system that combines internal and external data with multi-dimensional coverage.
Scenario applications are key to demonstrating the value of large models. Currently, the service interface of the “Panshi Yuheng” model offers dialogue and programming interfaces for a 32 billion parameter vertical domain large language model and an intelligent database, and has developed five specialized intelligent agents capable of digital simulation and optimization of industrial processes, trade carbon transfer accounting, lifecycle assessment, natural source accounting, and uncertainty analysis.
