Iran Burns UAE's Major Gas Field, First-Time Damage to Country's Upstream Oil and Gas Facilities
Odaily Planet Daily reports that as Iran intensifies strikes on key energy nodes, a large natural gas field within the UAE has been ignited. Meanwhile, U.S. President Trump has called on allies for assistance in reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The drone attack on the Shah gas field occurred near the border between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This is the first time during the conflict that Iran has damaged the country’s upstream oil and gas facilities. The UAE government stated that operations at the gas field have been suspended, and no personnel were injured. The field is operated jointly by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Texas-based Western Oil Company.
Due to attacks from multiple drones and missiles, the UAE closed its airspace overnight. Authorities said air traffic resumed normal operations on Tuesday morning. The day before the attack, Iran also struck a fuel depot at Dubai’s main airport, causing a large plume of smoke over the world’s busiest international transit hub and leading to a temporary suspension of flights.
