Afghanistan Claims Hospital Hit by Airstrikes Killing 400 People; Pakistan Denies Accusations

The deputy spokesperson for the Afghan government issued a statement on social media Tuesday, stating that the Pakistan Air Force carried out an airstrike on a hospital in Kabul on Monday night at 9 p.m., resulting in 400 deaths and approximately 250 injuries, with the possibility of further casualties.

The spokesperson said the hospital has 2,000 beds and is a medical facility dedicated to treating drug addicts. After the airstrike, a fire broke out in the hospital, destroying large parts of the building. Currently, rescue personnel are on-site controlling the fire and searching for and transporting the bodies of the deceased.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a statement Monday night denying that the “airstrike on a hospital providing rehabilitation treatment for drug addicts in Kabul” as claimed by Afghanistan.

From the night of February 26 to the early morning of February 27, clashes occurred along the border regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Pakistani military conducted airstrikes on Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, as well as multiple locations in Kandahar Province in the south and Paktika Province in the east. Tensions between the two countries escalated rapidly. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Asif announced the start of an “open war” against Afghanistan.
