On the 16th local time, according to informed sources, Iranian Foreign Minister Alaraji recently sent a text message to U.S. Special Envoy Witkov. Alaraji himself denied this on the same day.

Sources said it is not yet clear how many messages were exchanged between Alaraji and Witkov or what the content was, but this is the first known “direct contact” between the two sides since the U.S.-Iran conflict.

On the same day, Alaraji posted on social media to deny the above claims. He stated that his last contact with Witkov was before Iran was attacked by the U.S. and Israel.

Earlier that day, Trump told reporters at the White House that Iran was in dialogue with U.S. personnel. “There are indeed people proposing negotiations, but we do not know their identities.”
