Ford Stock (NYSE:F) Slides Despite new Super Duty Pickup Trims
For fans of pickup trucks from legacy automaker Ford F -3.03% ▼ , you are in for a treat. Ford plans to augment its Super Duty line with two new trims that will provide off-road capability and comfortable cabins, depending on the package. But Ford investors seemed less than pleased, and sent shares sliding over 3% in Friday afternoon’s trading.

One new trim coming to the Super Duty will be the Tremor package. This will bring in several new options, reports suggest, ranging from 35-inch tires to a factory lift kit, skid plates, Rock Crawl Mode and more. Tremor will be available for the XL version and for the Crew Cab Long Box version as well. Adding off-road options to a large truck like the Super Duty might seem like a bad idea. However, it seems that there is sufficient interest from potential customers to add a little more off-road capability to even some of the bigger trucks.
Meanwhile, Chassis Cab trucks will get the Platinum trim added to them, which offers leather seating, Sync 4 connectivity and more. This gives Chassis Cab owners a touch of luxury in their pickup, which might be a good fit for, say, a construction company owner who wants a high-end pickup.
A Charitable Play
Ford also took the opportunity to insert itself into firefighting dialogue, by offering a free Bronco to the Kern County Fire Department near Bakersfield, California. The Department manages 48 separate fire stations, and responds to a wide array of fire threats annually.
Ford, for its part, saw a need in Kern County and decided to step in to fill it. Most fire vehicles are tough to turn around, and the smaller vehicles that can turn more readily often do not have the necessary power to get through rough country. The Bronco, meanwhile, can address both points, offering both a solid turning radius as well as several different terrain modes. That combination of nimble handling and rugged operation made it perfect for Kern County’s needs, and so, Ford supplied through its Answer the Call grant program.
