(MENAFN) Nigel Farage, leader of the UK’s far-right Reform Party, stated that Britain should avoid direct involvement in any new foreign conflict, arguing that the country currently lacks the military capacity to participate, reports indicate.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Farage emphasized that the UK “cannot get involved directly in another foreign war. We don’t have a navy.” He highlighted limitations in defending overseas military assets, specifically mentioning the British base in Cyprus. “Given that we can’t even send a Royal Naval vessel to defend British sovereign territory and an RAF base, we certainly don’t have the capability to offer anything of any value to the Americans or the Israelis,” he said, calling the state of the Royal Navy “a catastrophe.”

Farage also criticized the government’s evacuation response amid the ongoing conflict in Iran, citing delays with charter flights. Despite his opposition to military involvement, he expressed disagreement with Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s initial refusal to allow US forces to use UK bases for operations alongside Israel, contrasting Britain’s approach with France. He said French President Emmanuel Macron’s willingness to secure the Strait of Hormuz highlighted “the humiliating state that we’ve sunk to today.”
