IT Home, March 3rd: Amazon announced at MWC26 in Barcelona that it is further expanding its 2024 investment plan in Spain, adding $18 billion to build AI and cloud data center infrastructure in the country. This brings the total investment to €33.7 billion (IT Home note: approximately 272.319 billion RMB at current exchange rates).

Amazon stated that the total planned investment in the AWS cloud technology region in Aragon, Spain, is expected to contribute €31.7 billion to Spain’s total GDP and support 6,700 direct and 23,200 indirect full-time equivalent jobs locally.

Amazon also plans to build a series of supply chain facilities in Aragon, including server manufacturing plants, fulfillment warehouses, and AI/ML server manufacturing and maintenance facilities, directly supporting its data center operations in Spain and Europe. Once fully operational, these facilities are expected to create about 1,800 jobs in Aragon.

Additionally, Amazon plans to invest €30 million before 2035 in community projects within its infrastructure operation regions in Spain, focusing on education, sustainability, social impact, and local development. The company is investing in 100 solar and wind energy projects in Spain, including seven new solar power plants.
