On the 9th, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced that it has requested domestic oil reserve bases to prepare for releasing reserves. The Japan News Agency reported that the Ministry has issued instructions to the 10 oil reserve bases managed by the Japan Agency for Metals and Minerals Resources, requiring them to make all necessary preparations for releasing oil reserves. An official from the Ministry also stated, “Relevant parties are actively advancing various preparatory work.” Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said at a press conference on the 9th that the Japanese government has not yet decided to release oil reserves. Prime Minister Sanae Sato previously stated that Japan’s official and private oil reserves are sufficient for 254 days of usage. Media and experts here believe that, as the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for Middle Eastern oil transportation, faces disruptions, Japan must prepare for the long-term impacts of the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
