Strait of Hormuz, major news! Gold and silver surge! Iran: Shot down U.S. military tanker!
There is new news about the Strait of Hormuz.
On Thursday, March 12, U.S. and European stock markets all closed lower, with the three major U.S. indices falling over 1.5%. Technology stocks declined across the board, with Intel down over 5%, TSMC down 5%, Tesla down over 3%, and Facebook down more than 2%.
Most Chinese concept stocks also fell, with the NASDAQ Golden Dragon China Index dropping 1.02%. In individual stocks, Hesai Technology fell over 5%, Century Internet declined more than 5%, iQIYI dropped over 4%, Atour Hotels down over 4%, and Xiaoma Zhixing fell over 4%. Pinduoduo rose over 3%, and Tencent Music increased more than 2%.
This morning, gold and silver prices surged after opening. As of press time, spot gold is up over 0.3%, and spot silver is up over 0.4%.
WTI crude oil also opened slightly higher.
On the news front, there is new major news about the Strait of Hormuz.
On the 12th, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ravanji told media that Iran allows ships from some countries to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Ravanji said that some countries have discussed the issue of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz with Iran, and Iran has cooperated with them. However, countries involved in aggression against Iran do not enjoy “safe passage rights” through the Strait.
Ravanji also stated that Iran has not mined the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mujtaba Khamenei, issued his first statement after taking office on the 12th, saying Iran will not give up revenge and will continue to use the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a means. He also called on neighboring countries in the region to close U.S. military bases as soon as possible.
U.S. intelligence assessments believe that the Iranian regime remains united and shows no signs of imminent collapse.
Sources familiar with the matter said that U.S. intelligence agencies have generally maintained the view that there is no significant split within the Iranian regime or opposition forces strong enough to threaten the regime.
Additionally, the Hatem Ambyah Central Command of the Iranian armed forces announced that a U.S. military refueling aircraft was shot down by missiles launched by resistance groups in western Iraq, with all crew members killed.
On the 12th, U.S. Central Command stated that a U.S. KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq during the period of U.S.-Israel military strikes against Iran. The CENTCOM said the incident was not caused by enemy fire or friendly fire.
