CNN: U.S. Government Senior Officials Did Not Anticipate Iran Would Block the Strait of Hormuz

ChainCatcher reports that, according to CNN, multiple sources familiar with the matter reveal that during the planning of the current operation, the U.S. Pentagon and National Security Council seriously underestimated Iran’s potential to close the Strait of Hormuz in response to U.S. military strikes.

Sources say that Trump’s national security team failed to fully consider the worst-case scenario. Three individuals familiar with the closed-door meetings stated that during recent classified briefings, senior officials in the Trump administration admitted to lawmakers that they had not anticipated Iran would close the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for an attack.
