Deeptech.Global and Geely Raize Deepen Strategic Cooperation, 2,000 Units of Upgraded Robotaxi GXR to Be Deployed
On March 9th, “Global Robotaxi First Stock” WeRide and Geely Remote New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group (hereinafter referred to as “Geely Remote”) signed a strategic cooperation agreement to deepen their partnership. They jointly announced the upgraded production version of the pre-installed Robotaxi GXR, with an expected delivery of 2,000 units by 2026, simultaneously launching in key domestic and international markets. This marks a new phase of large-scale commercial operation of Robotaxi worldwide, injecting momentum into the industrialization of L4 autonomous driving.
The new upgraded Robotaxi GXR will be launched in the third quarter of 2026. Compared to the previous generation, the new Robotaxi GXR is equipped with WeRide’s latest autonomous driving suite GEN8, centered around the self-developed Sensor Suite 8.0 (SS8.0) sensors, enhancing vehicle safety and reliability. The fine detail of the thousand-line-level main lidar point cloud has increased 17 times, with a detection range of 600 meters (2-3 times the industry mainstream), allowing early recognition of road conditions, reserving over 70% of the time for high-speed safety decisions, accurately predicting risks, and adapting to complex weather such as heavy rain and fog.
Leveraging Geely Remote’s remote-controlled AI chassis, supply chain, and manufacturing control advantages, the production cycle per vehicle has been compressed from 1 hour to within 10 minutes, achieving improvements in both quality and efficiency. Meanwhile, WeRide has partnered with Lenovo Vehicle Computing and NVIDIA’s HPC 3.0 platform to reduce the overall vehicle cost by 15%, with a total lifecycle cost reduction of 84%, breaking through the cost bottleneck for large-scale deployment.
This deepening of strategic cooperation is built on both parties’ validated mature Robotaxi business models. In October 2024, WeRide officially launched the new generation production Robotaxi GXR based on Geely Remote’s Super VAN, which achieved pure unmanned commercial operation in Beijing just four months later. In August 2025, it successfully launched fully unmanned commercial services in Guangzhou. Currently, this model is operating in Guangzhou, Beijing, and Abu Dhabi, with regular public operations in Dubai and Riyadh. It will also start unmanned operations in Dubai within this month, and Singapore’s trial operation will be officially open to the public on April 1.
Fang Xianjun, CEO of Geely Remote New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group, stated: “The deep cooperation between Remote and WeRide is a precise integration of their technologies and resources, and a vivid practice of Remote’s strategic transformation from manufacturing to ‘Intelligent Manufacturing + Service’ comprehensive solutions. Moving forward, we will rely on our leading R&D capabilities, smart factory standards, and intelligent assembly advantages to ensure high reliability and high adaptability in the mass production of the Robotaxi GXR pre-installed models, providing strong support for the large-scale deployment of L4 autonomous driving technology and helping the industry achieve high-quality development.”
As the only technology company worldwide holding autonomous driving licenses in China, the UAE, Singapore, France, and the United States, WeRide has established a forward-looking global layout, conducting autonomous driving R&D, testing, and operations in 30 cities across 10 countries. This strategic deepening with Geely Remote will further integrate both sides’ advantages, promote technological iteration and large-scale deployment of Robotaxi, and help the autonomous driving industry make a historic leap from demonstration operations to commercial scale, opening a new chapter in future mobility.
