Nissan partners with Uber to develop driverless taxis, planning a trial in Tokyo in the second half of the year
Nissan Motor Co. announced that it will collaborate with the American ride-hailing giant Uber in the field of autonomous taxis (Robotaxi). Nissan will equip vehicles with autonomous driving systems developed in partnership with a UK autonomous driving startup, aiming to launch a pilot service in Tokyo in the second half of the year.
According to Kyodo News, Nissan’s all-electric vehicle (EV) “LEAF” will be fitted with an AI autonomous driving system developed by UK-based Wayve Technologies, and will offer ride-hailing services through the Uber platform.
Nissan President Ivan Espinosa stated that the company aims to shape the future of mobility.
Additionally, Nissan plans to adopt Wayve’s autonomous driving technology in models scheduled for release starting from the 2027 fiscal year.
Currently, Nissan’s performance remains sluggish, and the company hopes this collaboration will help drive a business restructuring.
