On the 13th, the Ministry of Emergency Management held a video dispatch meeting and learned that the overall safety situation across the country has been severe and complex this year. All regions and departments must deeply learn from recent accidents, further refine and implement safety prevention measures before and after the Spring Festival, and do their utmost to prevent major accidents and disasters to ensure that the public has a safe, happy, and peaceful holiday.

It is reported that recent incidents such as the Baotou Steel explosion in Inner Mongolia, the fire at a nursing home in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang, the bridge collapse in Xiangshui, Jiangsu, the illegal chemical plant explosion in Shanyin, Shanxi, and the gold mine collapse in Zhaoyuan, Shandong, have exposed prominent issues in some areas and enterprises, including insufficient lessons learned, reckless risk-taking ignoring safety, and delayed or concealed reporting.

The long Spring Festival holiday this year will see an even stronger desire for travel among the public, significantly increasing various safety risks. It is essential to effectively strengthen safety precautions during the Spring Festival. Fire safety in crowded places must be strictly enforced; key areas such as large complexes, shopping malls, markets, hotels, high-rise buildings, self-built houses, and hospitals should be prioritized for supervision, with further strengthening of safety management in elderly care institutions to prevent fires causing mass casualties.

Coordination should be made to ensure safety during the Spring Festival travel rush, with enhanced supervision of large passenger transport vehicles, dynamic monitoring of passenger flow, and risk assessment. Efforts should also be made to strengthen cultural and tourism safety supervision, especially in popular scenic spots and large event areas, by increasing on-site risk control and improving emergency response plans.

A crackdown on illegal activities and violations must be intensified; key areas should be quickly inspected and rectified, with severe crackdowns on illegal production, storage, and operation of hazardous chemicals in “black workshops” and small workshops. The illegal production, sale, and storage of fireworks and firecrackers should be thoroughly investigated and combated, and safety devices in mines should be fully inspected. (Xinhua News Agency)
