Late at night, U.S. stocks plummeted! Strait of Hormuz, breaking news! Trump: No agreement will be reached with Iran
U.S. stocks plummeted across the board, and oil prices surged.
On March 6 (local time), the three major U.S. stock indices opened sharply lower. As of press time, all three indices had fallen more than 1%. The Dow dropped over 800 points, down 1.84%; the Nasdaq declined 1.33%; and the S&P 500 fell 1.51%.
In commodities, oil prices soared significantly, with Brent crude up over 5%, surpassing $90 per barrel, and WTI crude rising over 8%, exceeding $87 per barrel.
Additionally, the VIX fear index surged sharply, rising nearly 18% as of press time.
In the news, U.S. President Trump declared on social media on March 6 that “no agreement will be reached with Iran unless it unconditionally surrenders.” He also stated that the U.S. and its “many allies” should “make Iran great again!”
The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement on March 6, claiming that the Israeli military targeted an Iranian senior official. The IDF said details would be released later.
Regarding Iran, multiple Iranian media outlets reported on March 6 that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had destroyed U.S. missile defense radar systems, including the THAAD system, in three Middle Eastern countries using missiles and drones. Reports indicate that the IRGC launched multiple missile and drone attacks, destroying U.S. THAAD radar systems in the UAE and Jordan, as well as a U.S. FPS-132 radar in Qatar.
Iranian media also reported that the IRGC shot down an Israeli “Kamikaze-900” drone in Khuzestan Province. Military experts quoted in the reports said the drone was worth $30 million.
Furthermore, on the afternoon of March 6 (local time), the IRGC announced that the “Real Commitment 4” operation’s 22nd round had begun that morning, with Iran launching large-scale missile strikes using “Khoramshahr-4” and “Fateh” missiles in retaliation for the attack on a primary school in Minab. The announcement stated that targets from the Persian Gulf to Tel Aviv were hit, including U.S. and Israeli targets. It also said that, in addition to ballistic missiles, Iran launched the heavily armed “Khoramshahr-4” missile, carrying a 2-ton warhead and traveling at over 14 Mach, as part of this powerful strike.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, on March 6, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported receiving information that a tugboat was hit by an unidentified object while navigating the Strait. The incident occurred near the Strait of Hormuz, about 6 nautical miles north of Oman. The situation is still under further investigation.
Additionally, on March 6, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida al-Kaabi stated that Qatar has halted LNG production, and even if the conflict ends immediately, it would take several weeks to months for Qatar to return to normal supply levels. Kaabi predicted that all Gulf energy-exporting countries could cease oil and gas production within a few weeks.
