Caixin: Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing’s family-controlled Cheung Kong Industrial Holdings (00001.HK, hereafter “CKI”) has issued a statement. Its subsidiary Hutchison Ports PPC (PPC) previously operated two ports in Panama that were forcibly taken over by the Panamanian government. In accordance with the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce arbitration, they have initiated international arbitration against the Panamanian government, seeking at least $2 billion in compensation.

The statement, issued on March 6, 2026, local time in Panama, also emphasizes that PPC and CKI will not back down. They are not merely seeking symbolic compensation but are fully pursuing all rights owed to them due to the Panamanian government’s serious breach of contract and anti-investor actions.
